Places in Cala Liberotto, Sardinia
The east coast from Posada to Dorgali, where Orosei is, offers a lot to see to the traveller! If you arrive from Olbia or Golfo Aranci it will take you less than one hour drive. From Alghero or Cagliari, you need to account for 2 and 3 hours respectively.Long and white sandy beaches stretch along the coast in front of the village of Posada. The 4 km long beach of Su Tiriarzu is just one among the many that you can find in this area. Characteristic of the beaches of this area is the presence of a river that flows into the sea or else a pond right at the back, often making those beaches a strip of sand between the water.
Proceeding southwards, within a short distance, is the marina of La Caletta and its long beach, followed by the sand dunes of Capo Comino and Berchida. The latter is a very beautiful beach, well known for the turquoise green colour of the sea and for its shallow waters making it the ideal choice for children to play.
Its continuation is called Bidderosa and it is an alternation of short sandy beaches and granite rocks. This is a protected area with an access restricted to 120 cars. If you decide to visit it remember to buy a parking ticket of about 12 euro at your arrival.
Further south, the area of Cala Liberotto is quite residential and hosts several hotels and resorts. The coast is again characterized by a dozen small coves separated by rocky promontories. Further south, towards Orosei, is the longest beach of this area.
Ponds, river mouths and canals are along the full length of the beach, which is about 8 km. After Orosei the coast becomes high and rocky and beaches are not easily reachable anymore. Cala Gonone is the last village you can reach by car.
It is the departing point for all sea excursions towards the wonderful beaches of Cala Luna, Cala Goloritzè and Cala Sisine. You should try to plan an overnight stop in Cala Gonone or the surrounding area, since the spectacular views that these beaches will offer you are exactly what Sardinia is famous for! Dorgali is instead a perfect location to touring the inland area.
Just a few kilometres north of the town you will find the grottos of Ispinigoli, a 12 km long cave. Luckily you do not need to go that deep underground to admire its beauty, including Europe's highest stalagmite, some 38 metres tall.
Trekking lovers won't be disappointed either. A trip to Tiscali is a good chance to see the nuragic settlement and at the same time to enjoy a walk through beautiful landscapes, especially when starting from the side of Oliena.
